Which shampoo bar is best?
Cold-process shampoo bars.
Let’s talk about the science behind the creation of these bars.
Cold-processed shampoo bar allow the formulation to retain more glycerine. Glycerin attracts water (hence its moisturizing effect). Each bar has a two-week curing period, allowing oils and lye start the saponification process. Nothing remains of the lye after the saponification process and the drying period of the shampoo bar.
LESS WATER=MORE CONCENTRATED ACTIVE INGREDIENTS
Liquid shampoos typically contain up to 80% water in their formula, which makes it easier to spread but also dilutes the concentration of any beneficial active ingredients.
Products containing water also have the potential to become contaminated with bacteria and other microbes. To prevent this microbial growth preservatives must be added to the formula.
Since shampoo bars are solid and do not contain water, additional preservatives do not need to be added to prevent microbial growth.
Shampoo bars offer the same rich lather that you’d get from a liquid shampoo, without the need for harsh chemicals.
How long does shampoo bar last?
A shampoo bar will last about 3 to 6 weeks.
With the bars, it’s a lot more difficult to use too much, especially when you are applying the bars directly to your head.
Much like liquid shampoos, the number of uses that you can get from a shampoo bar will depend greatly on how often you wash your hair, how much you’re applying on with each wash, and how you store your bar in between use.
How to store shampoo bars?
Allow the bar to dry in between uses (use draining soap dish). Do not sit in shower under water or near steam. You can slice your shampoo bar into smaller pieces before using it.
