A Restorative, Hands-On Experience
After receiving many thoughtful requests, we’re offering small-group soap-making workshops in our Gastown studio. Each session lasts about 2 hours.
Led by Sheila, founder of Nurture With Nature, this workshop is an opportunity to slow down, work with natural materials, and learn a craft rooted in care and tradition. Sheila has been making natural soap since 1994, and her approach is practical, grounded, and deeply respectful of both skin and environment.
This is not a demonstration, it’s a quiet, hands-on experience designed to be both educational and restorative.
What the Workshop Is Like
You’ll be guided through the soap-making process step by step, learning how and why specific plant oils, botanicals, and essential oils are used. The focus is on clean ingredients, gentle cleansing, and balance.
The space is calm and welcoming. Scents like lavender, white grapefruit, and lemongrass naturally emerge as you work, not overpowering, just present.
You’ll leave with:
- A clear understanding of natural soap making
-
Insight into how ingredients affect skin health
-
Your own handmade soap to use at home ($60 value)
- A couple Sea Sizzlers for the bath ($30 value)
No experience is needed.
Why Natural Soap Matters
Natural soap cleans without stripping the skin of its natural oils. It supports the skin’s natural balance and moisture barrier. A gentle option many people with dry or delicate skin appreciate.
Because the ingredients are biodegradable and free from synthetic detergents and fragrances, natural soap is also gentler on the environment. What you learn here applies not just to soap making, but to how you think about everyday care and cleansing.
A Practice Rooted in Tradition
Soap making has long been a practical, essential craft. In returning to it, there’s a sense of reconnection to materials, to process, and to a slower way of doing things.
This workshop offers a simple, meaningful experience: working with your hands, learning something useful, and creating an object meant to be used and enjoyed daily.
