Natural Way to Wash Your Hair - Shampoo Bars

Big YES to solid shampoo bars! People & Earth-Friendly, a healthy alternative to commercial shampoo, free from chemicals and of course without a plastic bottle!

I’ve been making and using all-natural shampoo for over 29 years. My hair is curly, long, and truly healthy, and all these years I have been using only clay shampoo bars and argan oil as a conditioner.

I would like to share my thoughts why switching over to shampoo bars is a great decision for you and for the environment.

Why shampoo bar?

100 % Natural Composition

First of all, shampoo bars are made with healthy, natural, fresh ingredients, and contain a high percentage of luxury protein-rich plant oils and essential oils. Truly natural composition, without chemical compounds and synthetic fragrances, is very important (please please always read the label carefully).

Make sure your shampoo bar contains lots of hair nurturing ingredients.

Look for: coconut oil, olive oil, castor oil, and jojoba. Clays are amazing for haircare too. The particles that compose clay, absorb + attract grease, hence assist in removing impurities + truly cleaning your scalp. This process, at the cutaneous level, with its strong negative ion charge attracts positive charged toxic ions.

The scalp is considered the most absorbent part of the body, meaning products applied to skin enter blood directly. Therefore, it is very important to know the effects of ingredients used in mass shampoo formulations (MDPI).

Eco-friendly, sustainable, cost effective option

Shampoo bars are multi-purpose for: washing hair, body and for shaving. Since there are no chemicals no razor rash.  Shampoo bars can be used for other purposes like washing  your clothes while camping or traveling.

Solid shampoo bars can be your go-to travel companion. They’re light, smell great, save space (you don’t have to worry about spillage or liquid restrictions) + you can even wash your dishes; no chemicals.

Most importantly, SHAMPOO BARS OFFER A LOW CARBON FOOTPRINT.

Some footprint facts:

- 10-15 transport trucks of liquid shampoo would be needed for one transport of solid bars to achieve the same number of hair washes.

- Can you imagine? In the United States alone: 550 million empty plastic shampoo bottles tossed out every year!

Shampoo bars are usually sold with recyclable, eco-friendly packaging and provide the opportunity to cut down on the nearly 550 million shampoo bottles.

Which shampoo bar is best?

Cold-process shampoo bars.

Let’s talk about the science behind the creation of these bars.

Cold-processed shampoo bar allow the formulation to retain more glycerine. Glycerin attracts water (hence its moisturizing effect). Each bar has a two-week curing period, allowing oils and lye start the saponification process. Nothing remains of the lye after the saponification process and the drying period of the shampoo bar.

LESS WATER=MORE CONCENTRATED ACTIVE INGREDIENTS

Liquid shampoos typically contain up to 80% water in their formula, which makes it easier to spread but also dilutes the concentration of any beneficial active ingredients.

Products containing water also have the potential to become contaminated with bacteria and other microbes. To prevent this microbial growth preservatives must be added to the formula.

Since shampoo bars are solid and do not contain water, additional preservatives do not need to be added to prevent microbial growth.

Shampoo bars offer the same rich lather that you’d get from a liquid shampoo, without the need for harsh chemicals.

How long does shampoo bar last?

A shampoo bar will last about 3 to 6 weeks.

With the bars, it’s a lot more difficult to use too much, especially when you are applying the bars directly to your head.

Much like liquid shampoos, the number of uses that you can get from a shampoo bar will depend greatly on how often you wash your hair, how much you’re applying on with each wash, and how you store your bar in between use.

How to store shampoo bars?

Allow the bar to dry in between uses (use draining soap dish). Do not sit in shower under water or near steam. You can slice your shampoo bar into smaller pieces before using it.
